Shrader Appointed to IPA Board PDF Print E-mail
Jim Shrader, publisher of The Telegraph in Alton, was named Friday to the Illinois Press Association’s Board of Directors to fill the unexpired term of Dennis DeRossett, who is now executive director.  me_new2.jpgShrader has served as the publisher of The Telegraph since July 1998. The Telegraph is a Freedom Communications, Inc. newspaper.

A native of Madison, he began his newspaper career in 1979 at the Granite City Journal. In 1980, he joined the Belleville News-Democrat has an advertising account executive.

In May 1989, Shrader was recruited to be the advertising director for The Telegraph in Alton.  In 1992, after training under Publisher Don Miller, Jim was promoted to publisher of The Times-Reporter in New Philadelphia, Ohio, then a sister newspaper to The Telegraph. During his tenure in New Philadelphia, The Times-Reporter was redesigned, converted to a morning publication, won numerous advertising and editorial awards and grew substantially in profitability.

In July 1998, Jim was promoted “back home” to the publisher’s position at The Telegraph. Under Jim’s leadership, The Telegraph has won numerous editorial awards, including two-time first place “General Excellence” awards in both the Illinois Press Association and Southern Illinois Editorial Association competitions.

Jim is a product of Madison Public Schools and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He lives in Bethalto and has a son, Trey (James III).
